They said they were not be able to live without it.
Looking at the sea, the first word coming into my mind was uncertainty.
Although I know its elements, I couldn’t understand the nature of it. Changing surface. Unknown deepness. No sight of the other coast. If it once grabs you, there seems to be no escape, no hope to get out of it. Your future is voiceless death in the darkness.
So was the language. The one, spoken here. I know every elements of it, still I didn’t understand it first. Although I got tired of 5 minutes concentrating, I had to listen to people carefully whole day. In the beginning I felt so alone, so afraid.
One day they showed me the bridge to Denmark. It seemed to be endless, but I knew it did have end, which is the other coast. One day I began to understand people. First their view of life, later their language. That was the right order.
A day before yesterday I began to laugh uncontrollably for the first time. In my case, this is the sign of being ok. It’s great to be here as I like these people, this language and this sea. Still I would never move here to start a new life and partially forget my mother tongue, as lots of people do.
